Start-Up Visa Units and Quota

What does a “Unit” in the 2025 Quota represent?

A Unit in the 2025 Quota secures your application’s inclusion for your case filing to the Government of Canada within the next 120 days, and in any event, prior to December 31, 2025.

Why is it preferable to secure a 2025 Quota Unit rather than waiting for 2026?

The Start-up Visa Program (SUV) may be placed on hold or terminated at any time. The earlier your case is filed, the lower the risk of being affected by regulatory or policy changes. Prompt filing is therefore strongly advantageous.

I understood there were no more 2025 Units available as of August. Why are additional Units now accessible?

As of the end of August, all 2025 Units were fully allocated. However, last week the Angel contacted us with new availability for the SCREMER project under the 2025 Quota.

Why did the Angel Investor contact you with additional Units?

Allocations fluctuate. Each project consists of one founder and four (4) co-applicants (five applicants in total per project). Occasionally, after due diligence is conducted, one or more applicants may not qualify. When that occurs, previously allocated Units may become available to new applicants.

What criteria are reviewed during due diligence on applicants?

The Angel Investor’s due diligence evaluates:

  • i) Business and management experience;

  • ii) Alignment ("matching") of the applicant’s background with project requirements;

  • iii) Financial capacity to participate in the project

What happens if I begin the process but the Angel Investor declines to enroll me?

In such a case, you will be fully refunded. Your total financial disbursement will be $0.
